Have you noticed that Safari version 8, that comes with OS X Yosemite, no longer shows the full website address in the address field at the top of its window? For example, if you visit http://www.soundsupport.biz/ and then click on a link to visit some page within my website, Safari will only display soundsupport.biz in the address field. Once you click in the address field Safari will show the full address, such as http://www.soundsupport.biz/group-mac-support/
Here are instructions to make Safari always display the full website address:
- Open Safari, click on the Safari menu and select Preferences.
- Click on the Advanced button.
- Next to Smart Search Field check the box labeled “Show full website address.”
While we’re in Safari’s preferences, I’ll show you how to fix another Safari 8 pet peeve of mine:
- Click the Search button.
- In the Smart Search field section, remove the checkmark next to Show Favorites.
Now that you’ve turned off this feature, when you click in the address field, you won’t see a pop-down list of your website bookmarks, which Safari calls Favorites. I just find this pop-down list to be big and cumbersome, so I like to turn it off.
